The Chronicles of The Good Ship Gilliana and Her Crew

After a bit of quiet time - during the next couple of days. It was all on again

Thursday
John Hughes came around for a quick drink and took off with Joyce to Cibo for dinner

On Friday Joyce took off to Devonport to stay with Jan and David, we took off to dine with the McCreadys at Rice (by the way excellent food)
I took off early Saturday morning to help prepare for Mia’s birthday, then a large crowd took off to the Zoo for Zoo Music to watch our friend Jan. She was the opening act for Anika Moa

Then Lana Joyce Dale & I took off to Dan and Helens for dinner.
Dan made excellent seafood gumbo for us and a superb loaf of bread

Sunday
Some quiet time then we took off to Lucy’s for family dinner.

Monday
Craig, Karen, Mary Will and Jacqui took off to our place to watch the Oscars and lunch.

Made some tasty delights to accompany the Oscars

Sandwiches, sausage rolls and a prawn salad.

Tuesday
I took off to have very necessary repairs to my hair then the trio took off to Julia and Rex’s for dinner. Wednesday I took off to have checks on my eyes and then the trio Joyce Dale and Gillian took off on the boat for the Hauraki Gulf. What an attractive group

Are you exhausted reading this I am.
A overnight pit stop at Drunkards Bay… Joyce’s Fish dish with pasta (a good accompaniment) for dinner and then off to Shark Bay

Dale dressed up for the girls…be still our beating hearts!

Lunch was the fish dish wrapped in Burittos and the left over sausage rolls

Sunset from Shark Bay.
The days are rolling into one another broken only by what we are eating.
Thai Styled Prawn Rice Dish, for dinner
Meanwhile the weather continues to be lovely

Friday
Off to Coromandel and Te Kouma
Even got some sailing in.

A beautiful Harbour .

Joyce made smoked salmon and spring onions scrambled eggs.
Dinner was hamburgers and oven fried chips and I must say they were particularly good.
To add some Kiwiana, I made a beetroot mayo Just blitzed some chunks of beetroot with a couple of tablespoons of mayo…Kept a little chunky.) to go on top of the lettuce tomato and red onion combo. Tarragon mustard under the burger which had a little pocket filled with blue cheese. Probably sounds a bit over the top but I can guarantee delicious.

Cocktails while watching the sunset. Pretty incredible really.

Some common sights during this voyage.

Lunch was a seared tuna summer salad based on Salad Nicoise without a lot of the Nicoise!!! The dressing was good. Anathoth are making a lovely raspberry vinegar it gave great flavour to the salad.
We dined vegetarian. Joyce made something never before attempted and it was excellent.
Kumara stuffed with spicy, onions courgettes, peppers sauced with yoghurt
A keeper.

We have been privileged to have a moon rise not long after sunset.

.The hills of our bay were in the way so we didn’t get the huge golden glow on the horizon but it still looked pretty spectacular. This photo reminds me of a picture bought by our friend Debbie after a long long lunch. But that’s another story.

A dose of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin with an hilarious take off of Ed Sullivan exhausted us finally then off to bed.

Sunday
Up early and anchored in Waimate Island en-route to The Happy Jacks.
Managed to get anchor down just before the rain came. Waited for the sun.
This is a frequent sight… Mr Sudoku himself. Another frequent sight starring" Steve Reeves filling the bucket fo shame"

It was bread making day so I got to and we gobbled through the loaf, like there was no tomorrow. We finished off our cold cuts, and cheese washed down with a little rose and sauv blanc.
Had lunch a wee nap and motored off to Elephant Cove in the Happy Jack group.
It’s a really pretty bay.

As we came in Dale chattered to a couple of fisherman making sure we weren’t encroaching on their anchorage. They were so thrilled with his good manners they offered us some fresh snapper. Excellent. I have forgotten how lovely to get fresh fish the rigor had set in (I sound like one of those woman forensic pathologist!) just the smell of the sea.
I made chowder. It was delicious. No picture but it sure was a good memory for us.

Joyce celebrating our fish supper and below the Good Ship Cajun Moon

Nice quiet night had many laughs with Mike Meyers “Best of” DVD

Monday
After many swims it was so hot. We lunched again. This time Pie.
Did the usual trick of 1/3 bacon & egg, 2/3 spinach feta and egg.
Everyone is satisfied. Time for a sail and we took off for Waiheke and Man ‘o War Bay
Dale got out the MPS he loves that. It’s a pretty sight and a good plug for the Channel.

Getting low on supplies. When you go shopping for a week with nowhere to shop.
It seems like you have bought enough food for an small army. Dale always rolls his eyes. You can see the question “Where is it all going to go” and “We’ll never eat it” going though his head but we have got through it.
Anyhow I found some steak in the freezer, it was a good grain fed sirloin cut.
Decided to turn it into schnitzel or as the Italians say Veal (or in this case) Milanese.
Running low on eggs but had some of the egg wash from the pie left, herbed it up and added yoghurt A very nice coating complete with Panko crust.
Served with my favourite the lemon infused pasta, a little chili flakes, garlic and fresh basil. Pretty Nice dinner.

Now this time we really got a good look at the moon. It was huge the pictures we took just didn’t do it justice. What a magnificent view.

Tuesday
Last full day took off early to Rocky Bay. One of our favourites I must say. Joyce and I insisted on TV reception so we can watch House and Boston Legal. Amongst the best that American TV can offer. As we are facing the Sky Tower our reception should be perfect.>

This is such a lovely house in Rocky Bay. I would love to live in it.
Auckland City from Rocky Bay.
Had lunch…couple of pizzas. The beetroot and feta was particularly nice. Touch of oregano, caramelised onions, feta and Mary Will’s beetroot relish. It may sound weird but it worked.>

Funny how on the last day, your body knows it has had too much food, wine, frivolity and one sits down to watch TV feeling like blimps. Not another sip of wine can pass the lips. But we did enjoy our programmes. A sleepless night for the Wrightsons.
Not unusual. Not enough wine me thinks. Withdrawal symptoms.
Up and at it about 7.30. It is raining. The end to 7 beautiful days.
The empty fridges are a bit sad, 1 tablespoons butter, Just enough milk for the morning coffee. Couldn’t have calculated better if we had tried really
>
The only problem with making do with the food you have on hand one wouldn't want to be on a diet. There are a lot of pies, pasta, risotto, pizza, homemade bread... not exactly steak or fish and salad every meal.
We need to be better fisher people but I think I would still find inventive full of calories ways and means to serve it.
Difficult for a leopard to change its spots

Thursday
A Night with the Burts

Elphie and Pete have moved. Like Arkwright in Open All Hours They live above the Shop.
Well not literally above but actually in.
It looks fantastic. Of course don’t think the customers would be thrilled with the way we left it. Remains of a lovely dinner featured below. Peter was on Fish served on rice and salad
Superb poached peaches with brandy snap cigars and cream

Annie Bastow made a welcome appearance bringing as nibbles the famous cheese straws.
Of course there had to be some drama in the night.
Dale went to speak to a cab driver who was sitting outside doing nothing to see if he would like to chauffeur the trio home. He opened the door wide straight into his face.

Whamo
Heaps of blood the driver very kindly gave him tissues for mopping up.
Here is the look in the morning

Other than that we had a great time
